What is BCIN ?
Just prior to the end of the 20th Century the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing began to develop a method to license designers and to streamline the building permit system in Ontario. Out of this effort came the BCIN, Building Code Identification Number. Designers must provide their BCIN to obtain approval on all design services and construction drawings.
In an effort to protect the public, many standards were introduced including:
- Submission of qualifications of house designers, architects, and other building officials
- Mandatory liability insurance
- Establishment of time frames to process and issue permits
At Highbridge, we have designers who are licensed under this code and meet all the requirements of the regulations.
If you are interviewing other architects, don’t stop at the BCIN license. Ask to see completed past projects, references, and approved drawings. A minimum of five years’ experience in the design of your project is recommended. We can offer this documentation, but many other design firms cannot.
